Here's what my students are saying about Creating Your Personal Timeline:
"I found the Personal Timeline a wonderful way to jog my memory and bring up events, people and places that would probably still be forgotten if I hadn't had this structure to work with. It's so helpful to revisit the timeline when adding information to my stories." —Toni S.
"When starting a writing project, the question of "where do I begin" can be overwhelming. The Personal Timeline helps me organize my thoughts and break up my writing into manageable and enjoyable pieces. I was surprised at how easily it helped me remember the wonderful moments I was struggling to write about. It's a great way to get started!"         —Deb Ann H.

Here's how it works:
The 44-page workbook is divided into two main sections:
  • the topic worksheets, and
  • the timeline.
Each topic worksheet explores a single topic. For example, the "Love & Friendship" page has you list your relationships like childhood friends, crushes, and romances, while the "House & Home" page asks you to list all the places you've ever lived. You can be as specific or general as you like on these pages: "The blue house on 14th Street," "Grandma's house in Wisconsin,"or "1638 Highland Avenue."

These pages are not chronological. You can use them like note pads, jotting down memories as they come to you. It takes time to fill out these pages. You may have to hunt down information by looking at old letters, diaries, yearbooks, or even calling family members. These are working documents that you can keep adding to over time.

The timeline pages are where you put everything in order. You can pick and choose from all the information you gathered on the topic worksheets and start placing it in the proper sequence on the timeline. It's interesting to note what you choose to include or not to include at this point. This is where the patterns emerge and you'll start to see what you find most valuable in your life.

At the end of the workbook, I've included resources for adding world events to your timeline. When you add these larger world events to the timeline, you start to see your life anchored in the timeline of history.
